Interview advice
After submitting the CV, should everything go according to plan then the client will invite you for either a telephone or face to face interview. As was the case in preparing the CV, preparation for the formal interview is key to make sure that you have been able to do everything that you possibly could to create that all important first impression.
As a result there are several things that you can do to give yourself the best possible chance of acheiving a favourable outcome and also portraying yourself in the most favourable light to the interviewer, these are as follows:
Do your homework
Before attending the interview make sure that you gather as much information about the role and also educate yourself on the function of the company, the kind of projects and services that they offer and also the basic history of the organisation.
General grooming and attire
We always reccomend that candidates present themselves with attention to a few basic requirements. We enourage every candidate to make sure that they are dressed appropriately and that they ensure that their personal grooming and general personal hygiene is of a good standard. This may seem like stating the obvious however the interviewer will be assessing the candidate's ability to integrate into a team and the company as well having their technical capabilities scrutinised. It is a vital part of the process that many people tend to overlook which can be extremely detrimental to their chances without ever finding out about it afterwards.
Relax and be yourself
By securing the interview it means that the client will have seen something positive in your profile and as a result there is no need to be anxious about the meeting. In addition, there is no point in pretending to be anything else other than yourself as it rarely comes across as genuine and it is not a true representation of your attitude, beliefs or core values.
Be clear and honest
When being interviewed the tendency of some people is to over elaborate some of their answers or indeed try and disguise or justify pieces of information that the interviewee may be embarrassed or concerned about. Interestingly enough, should this take place then the usual outcome is that the client takes little confidence from the candidate's answers and ends up formulating a negative impression based upon this lack of honesty or clarity. As a result we always advise being open and honest about any of these issues but at the same time positively explain what was learnt from the experience or what steps have been taken to improve the situation. If you feel uncomfortable about any issue then please speak to your recruitment advisor at Stirling Global Ltd and they will be happy to assist and identify solutions to these issues before any interview takes place.
Listen
The interview is as much for the benefit of the candidate to assess the clients credentials as an employer as the other way round. Even when not asking questions the client will divulge information they feel is relevant and as a result it is vital that the candidate listens intently and if they feel necessary, asks relevant questions in response.
Enjoy!
An interview is a great opportunity to meet a new contact with someone in the same technical field. At the very least a candidate has increased their positive exposure within the industry and the very best conclusion could be that they come away from the process with a new employer and an interesting new role!
